150-year-old State Museum of History of Uzbekistan. When will it be repaired?

The State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan is one of the oldest and richest museums not only in our country, but also in Central Asia. The building, which now houses the museum, was built in 1970 and is included in the National List of Immovable Property Objects of Material and Cultural Heritage as a monument of architecture of the modernist era. The heating and cooling system in the building is outdated, and the marble decorations are in need of repair. At the same time, the museum's exposition was last updated in 2003. In 2024, repair and reconstruction work began here.

In 2020, through the efforts of the museum's scientific team, the Tashkent City History Museum was established, which currently operates as a museum branch.

HISTORY OF THE HISTORY MUSEUM

The museum, which was reorganized in 1992 in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, was formed on the basis of the Tashkent Museum, which was established in 1876. With the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan in 1943, the museum was transferred to its jurisdiction as the republic's main museum.

To date, the museum's names have changed several times due to historical, political, and branching reasons. For example, it was reorganized under the names "Turkestan People's Museum of Local Lore" (1918), "Main Museum of Central Asia" (1922), "Museum of Central History and Revolution History" (1933), and many others. From 1992, it began to be called by its current name.

Today, the MUSEUM's collections contain about 340 thousand items, including more than 70 thousand archaeological, more than 100 thousand numismatic, about 18 thousand ethnographic items, more than 120 thousand photographs and documents related to the history of the new and most recent periods of the region, more than 18 thousand material monuments, etc. The museum's archaeological collection consists of 325 collections from primitive, ancient, and medieval periods.
