What connects the Registan and the Taj Mahal?

Among the unique architectural monuments of the East, the Registan and Taj Mahal occupy a special place. They are significant not only as great structures of their time, but also as symbols of cultural ties.

Interestingly, the Registan Square in Samarkand and the Taj Mahal in Agra were built almost simultaneously. The similarities between these two magnificent buildings are not accidental, but rather the result of deep cultural and architectural cooperation between the Ashtarkhanid and Baburid states.

In the 17th century, diplomatic and economic relations between these two great powers reached a high level. This is also confirmed by the portrait of Imamkuli Khan, created during the reign of Aurangzeb. The most skilled architects of their time participated in the construction of the Registan and Taj Mahal, who followed each other's example and cooperated with each other.

According to the information service of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, the Center is currently collecting information about the similarities and differences between these two historical monuments, their architects, and the history of their construction. Special media content dedicated to these masterpieces is also planned to be prepared and displayed in the exposition.
