High quality steel is always used to produce knives. Particular importance is attached to the beveling and polishing of the blade. As a rule, the blade is straight, sometimes slightly curved, like a willow leaf, with a length of ten to twenty centimeters, depending on the purpose.
Of considerable interest are knives made by the Tashkent craftsman A. Nishanov, on the blades of which an engraved islimi ornament is applied. The handles of his works are especially original. One of them has a pommel in the form of a mountain goat’s head – tog echkisi. Another knife in a sheathed form depicts a figurine of a Karakalpak girl in an old wedding dress kizil-kimishek and a high headdress saukele. The decor is complemented by coral inserts.
