Colbert's Treasure - "Tazkirat al-auliya"

Farid al-Din Attar's "Tazkirat al-auliya" is well known to readers. A Turkic translation of this work, written in Uyghur script, is included in "Mirajnama."

This extremely interesting manuscript is important for linguists, art historians, and historians of religion alike. Antoine Galland noted in his diary that he discovered this volume in Istanbul on January 14, 1673. The book was purchased for the collection of the famous French minister Colbert (1619–1683). Colbert was a passionate collector of books on religious themes, and this manuscript, dealing with the Prophet Muhammad and his mi'raj, or miraculous ascension to heaven, was truly unique. Then, in 1732, the manuscript entered the Royal Library.
