The Round Table was organized by the National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Zamon Press Info publishing house with sponsorship from the Eriell Group oilfield services company.
Representatives of the multimedia project “The Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the collections of the world” provided information about the project to the representatives of major museums and libraries of the UK and foreign media, and spoke about the project’s plans for the near future. In addition, during the Round Table the reports of foreign scholars on the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan, stored in the collections of the United Kingdom, were given.
During the event, it was also noted that in the near future it is planned to publish several books-albums dedicated to the UK collections at once.
The first book is devoted to ancient coins – vivid examples of numismatics stored in the collection of the British Museum. Hofstra University professor Aleksandr Naymark and the head of the numismatics department at British University Robert Bracey will author the album.
In addition, work continues on books in the collections of the University of Cambridge and the Bodleian Library in Oxford, authored by Dr. Firuza Melville, director of the Center for Persian Language Studies at Pembroke College, together with a number of British scholars.
At the end of the round table, honorary guests, in particular, the representative of the House of Lords Lord Iltaf Sheikh, were presented with a facsimile copy of the priceless manuscript “Diwani Husayni”, and the representative of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, Dr. Talal Al-Azim, was presented with a copy of the world-famous Katta Langar Koran.
In addition, the 10-volume collection, published as part of the “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections” project, was donated to ten major libraries and museums of the UK.
